Altimeter

Altimeter is a lightweight live utility that uses iOS location data to show your current altitude and altitude accuracy. It does not create markers, drafts, or saved history.

Steps

1. Under Utilities on Home, select Altimeter.
2. If prompted, allow location access while using the app.
3. Wait for the status to change from “Getting location data…” to “Measuring Live.”
4. Read the centered current altitude and the altitude accuracy shown below it.

Reading the values

• Current Altitude: The latest valid GPS altitude, shown in meters.
• Altitude Accuracy: The system’s estimated vertical uncertainty; a smaller value is generally more reliable.

The screen uses a large altitude reading and status indicator without a circular dial or tick marks.

Accuracy and limitations

GPS altitude can differ from map elevation, barometric altitude, or a local vertical datum. Error may increase indoors, in canyons, beside tall buildings, or under poor satellite reception.
